Ebulfez Garayev: "2.5 mln tourists travelled to Azerbaijan last year"
"In 2014, 2.5 mln tourists travelled to Azerbaijan", said the Minister of Culture and Tourism Ebulfez Garayev.
“Number of tourists travelling to Azerbaijan during past 5 years increased 14-15%. However, this number fell in 2014. For example, number of travellers from Russia, Georgia and Iran declined, from Great Britain, France, Italy, USA and Arabic countries increased 10-20%”, the minister said.

The decline was caused by economic-political processes in the neighbours: “The economic situation in Russia influences number of tourists. These factors also influence Georgia and Iran”.

Azerbaijan has over 530 hotels.

The Minister noted that Azerbaijan has opportunity to receive any number of guests: “Our goal is to increase variety of service. Every tourist averagely invests $700 in the country’s economy”.

“I hope that we’ll able to increase number of tourists to 5 mln in the years coming”, he added.
